I will never forget the feedback I got for the first draft of Where Dreams are Lost. People complained, aside from the meandering plot and poor pacing, how unrelentingly grim and sad the story was. I will never forget the complaints about how miserable everyone was and the absence of hope. I remember being called a shitty writer (the first time I got such a comment) as my beta readers stopped reading in droves.
I will not get into the thorny details of myself during the Covid pandemic, but it was a dark time for everyone. Moreover, I was no exception, and that darkness, that loss of hope, leaked onto the page. I learned some important lessons that day. Chiefly the importance of hope and that my grammar and sentence structure were terrible. It also taught me how my experiences and emotions reflect on me on the written page.
Please feel free to take that information as you wish.

Where Dreams are Lost was one of the most difficult to get into a finished state. The mistakes were small but added up to big problems within the narrative. It is so difficult to know how much you need to explain to your audience to make sure that they are not in the dark but also not being handheld.
I hope that you enjoy Where Dreams are Lost. I know the world is scary and hard times are upon us, especially for the younger generation. However, I think the ending I have gone with will inspire hope that things will improve. We need to work together, survive and thrive despite the difficulties of our times.
We made it this far, and we can keep going.
